WOW!!! Day 5... A day of rest and a day to share

Hello everyone!  The people I've met have been great!  I spent Sat. night at Burlington Campground- compliments of three nice State Parks ladies who met me on the Avenue and said, "We saw you on TV last night."  They went on ahead and paid for my campsite!  I've been passed by many people riding bicycles on their travelling vacations.  While sitting at my campsite, one of them who passed me earlier came up to me and said, "Hey, I saw you on TV.  Aren't you the charity walker?"  His name is Jim and he is travelling with a friend named Johno- they are from Australia and started their trip in Vancouver, B.C.  They gave me some travel tips, one which I may follow, and that is to take Hwy 1 instead of Hwy 101.  We'll see.  Last night my good friends Mike and Angie Wood called me up and said they were in Garberville and they'd like to stop and see me.  So they came and got me and we had dinner in Miranda.  What a blessing everyone has been.  This morning I was talking to Jim and Johno and we looked up and saw a man walking down the Ave.  I said, "There's another crazy walker.  I wonder if he is on a day hike or what."  I called out to him and asked him where he was going, and he said, "San Francisco."  I said, "Wait a minute, I want to talk to you."  So I talked to him and told him what I am up to and found out what he is up to.  His name is Geordie, and he also started walking from the US/Canada border!  He is walking for peace and healing.  An amazing man.  We wished each other well and hoped that we would see one another further down the road.  Wow!  All of these people are doing far more amazing physical feats than I- it is a privilege and a wonder to meet them.  Once again- the people are great!

This morning Mrs. Childs came with her caretaker, Lauri, and picked me up from my campsite.  They took me to church at the Church of Christ in Rio Dell, where I was invited to speak and tell about the Coder kids and the Walk.  That was a wonderful opportunity and everyone listened and was interested.  At the end of the service, we all joined hands and they prayed for me and the kids and the Walk.  Amen!  Right now I am sitting at Mrs. Child's kitchen table typing this.  They treated me to a homemade lunch.

I plan on getting up early tomorrow from my campsite and seeing how far I can get in a full day.  These 6 to 7 mile days just aren't  going to do it for the long haul.  I will either have to lighten the pack or toughen up- one or the other.  I'm getting some great pictures and hopefully I will post some today or soon.

I'm having a great time so far!  People.  That is what it is all about...and relationship...relationship with our Father, and with each other.  I can say from my short experience so far is that when you let go of fear, trust Him, and reach out while trying to do something good, the best side of people comes out.  It is a wonder and a blessing to behold......... It's not what we get, it's what we give........

Thank you Em, for posting for me last night and for being such a sweet girl...    Craig

No problem posting for you. Anytime, just let mom or I know. Glad to hear the Walk is going good. Lucky is doing well and wishes you a safe journey. Gram asks about you every day "Wonder where our wondering walker is today?" It’s so cute, so really does miss you-even if she doesn't come out and say it in English. But in her way she does say it daily.

Well I hope that Day 6 brings you many miles without to much hassle from that heavy pack! We will keep you and the kids in our prayers!

    Love you!

    Love, Emily

P.S. Ok so I couldn't figure out how to post a comment to you without it being from you. Lol. Guess I will have to have mom show that to me when she gets back. Oh well at least you will get the message :)

  2. Hi Craig,
    This is Lesley, Joe's Mom.
I finally got a chance to look at your blog. It looks like you are having a good journey so far!
I like to walk alot and have found it to be a blessing for me physically as well as spiritually. Recentally, I have been trying to lift my eyes up and look at the mountains around me instead of the ground or the path in front of me. It is such a blessing to see the hills covered in Redwoods . After living in the desert for 17 yrs. the trees remind me of the blessings God has poured upon me. Yesterday, as I walked the Lord brought Psalms 121 to mind and blessed me in a new way. I wanted to share it here to maybe encourage you.
I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whencecometh my help, my help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, not the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Sometime a known scripture strikes me in a new way. Hope it blesses you too.
Have a great walk today...Many miles!!! Lesley
